GUIDELINES FOR CONDUCTING EXAMINATIONS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (Ph.D., MTech, & M.A.)
All departments should request the students with disabilities who need special accommodation to inform the departments at least a week prior to the exam/interview.
The candidate should have the discretion of opting for his own scribe or request the Examination Body for the same. In case the candidate is allowed to bring his own scribe, the qualification of the scribe should be one step below the qualification of the candidate taking examination.
The person opting for own scribe should submit details of the own scribe and the educational qualification of the scribe to the examination body.
The scribes should also sign an undertaking form on the day of the examination. Undertaking form is in Appendix below.
Compensatory time of not less than 20 minutes per hour of examination should be provided to all students with disabilities.
A scribe/reader/lab assistant must also be provided for the student with disability if requested. If required, please contact the Office of Accessible Education oae@iitd.ac.in for a list of available scribes for examinations.
Depending on the nature of the student's disability, the examining body is requested to ensure that the question paper is accessible. This may include providing large-font question papers or allowing the use of assistive technologies such as laptops, speaking calculators, or low-vision magnifiers.
Alternative assessment methods may be provided where necessary, such as objective-type questions or substitute questions in place of diagram-based ones.
The examination room should be accessible; preferably on the ground floor or where lifts and ramps are accessible for students with disabilities.
The Office of Accessible Education (OAE) can provide staff in case special assistance is needed for any student with a disability. Please inform in advance.
