The OAE is a dedicated office under the Office of Diversity & Inclusion at IIT Delhi that works to ensure equal access to academic, co-curricular, and campus life for students with disabilities. It provides support services, reasonable accommodation, for inclusion in alignment with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.
Any student with a disability, as defined under the RPwD Act, 2016, can approach the OAE for academic accommodations, assistive services, and other accessibility-related support.
The OAE provides support for all categories of benchmark disabilities recognized under the RPwD Act, 2016.
The OAE offers a range of services, including:
Reasonable Accommodations (e.g., Compensatory time in exams, scribes, accessible materials, accessible hostels etc.)
Assistive technology and device support
Accessible classroom arrangements
Liaising with departments and faculty for inclusive practices
Peer support and mentorship support
Conducting cultural and sports events
Conducting sensitization workshops for students, staff and faculty.

Absolutely. All personal and medical information shared with the OAE is treated with strict confidentiality and is only disclosed to relevant academic or administrative staff with the student’s consent.
Yes, faculty and staff are encouraged to contact the OAE to understand how they can support students with disabilities in their classrooms, labs, or other campus settings.
Yes, the OAE works in coordination with the Office of Career Services (OCS) to facilitate accessible internship and placement opportunities for students with disabilities, and to sensitize recruiters where necessary. OAE has Diversity Representatives that are OCS representatives who are working to ensure inclusive hiring on campus.
Yes, the OAE regularly conducts orientation sessions, get togethers, cultural and sports events for students with disabilities and sensitization workshops for faculty, staff, and student volunteers to build an inclusive campus culture.

1. Diversity Representatives in Hostels
Each hostel has a Diversity Representative, appointed by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), IIT Delhi, to support students from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
They can:
Help you understand the kind of support available
Facilitate communication with the OAE, faculty, or staff
Provide peer support and guidance in navigating campus life

2. Students with Disabilities (SwD) Representative in the Student Affairs Council (SAC)
IIT Delhi has a SwD Representative within the Student Affairs Council (SAC), who represents the interests of students with disabilities. This representative is a student peer who can:
Listen to your concerns confidentially
Represent disability-related issues in SAC forums
Help you connect with institutional resources like the OAE or faculty advisors
You can reach out to the SwD SAC Representative via email or through the SAC portal. Their role is to ensure your voice is heard in student governance and to help make the campus more inclusive.
